Kinsaku est le dernier né d'une longue lignée de guerriers japonais. Mais il n'aime pas le combat. Ne parvenant pas à exprimer toutes ses idées, il tombe gravement malade. Les soins de ses parents et sa résolution de parler lui permettent de guérir et de décider de devenir poète. Il deviendra le père fondateur des poèmes en forme de haïkus au XVIIème siècle.
